Mileage Contest

Mileage Contest

Riders M.C. has a tradition to honor the Rider who, during the official riding season, rides the most miles. We will do that again this year, but we will also honor the Rider who racks up the most Rider Run Miles.

Here is how it will work:

Annual Miles

Riding Season Start: April club meeting

Riding Season End: last Run in October (typically the Salem Witch/North Shore Run).

START Mileage Readings may be taken any time on or after the Riding Season start (as above). Note: I will go out of my way to get readings from those Riders who can't make a timely appearance.

END Mileage Readings may be taken any time after the Riding Season Start up to the Riding Season End (as above).

Any club Officer, including the Road Captain, may do a Mileage Reading on anyone else's bike. Readings must be reported to the Safety Officer within one week to be officially recorded.

A Mileage Reading must note five things: Rider's name, date, plate number, make or model bike, and of course the mileage indicated on the odometer.

All Mileage Reading records will be kept by the Safety Officer.

Each Rider is credited with the actual mileage between START and END readings of the odometer of his bike(s), plus any Run Miles while riding someone else's bike on the Run.

Riders who have more than one street bike may add the separate mileages, as long as no one else usually rides the other bike(s). We leave you on the honor system to note for deduction any miles you put on your bike by someone else.

If you change bikes during the season, be sure to get the readings (end on the old bike, start on the new bike) by an Officer of the club.

Usually, someone goes over the 10,000 mile mark, but in some recent years, the high mileage winners were missing in action or just plain didn't ride much. (The contest was won with less than 4,000 miles!) So please don't think you don't have a chance.

Run Miles (new):

This is the actual miles or "Official Run Miles" while on a Scheduled Run, Dinner Run, Rumble Run, Pick-up Run, as follows:
The official Run miles will be the actual round trip, traveled by the acting Road Captain for the Run. If the actual round trip was not made, then the Road Captain's good faith estimate of what those miles would have been.

Scheduled Runs: Start and End readings should be taken during the Scheduled day and overnight Runs. These may all be taken by the Road Captain for the Run.

Pick-up Runs: Pick-up Run mileage will qualify for the contest if there was notice to the rest of the club one week in advance by email, U.S. mail, or telephone call. Each Rider will be credited with the higher of his actual Start to End Run miles or the Official Run Miles.

Rumble Runs and Dinner Runs: It is not practical to read everyone's miles at Rumble Runs (the ride that may take place after a club meeting) or Dinner Runs, because it takes too much time and all the miles traveled will be pretty much the same anyway. So, for Rumble and Dinner Runs, the acting Road Captain will be used for all.

Official Run Miles Reporting: You should report to the Safety Officer, within one week: the name of the acting Road Captain, run miles, the date, and the name of each Rider participating.

Actual Run Miles Reporting: You should report to the Safety Officer, within one week: the name of the acting Road Captain; the date of the Run; and the name, plate number, and Run Start and Run End odometer readings for each Rider participating.

The Safety Officer will be able to verify and record readings, whenever he is present on a given Run. The Safety Officer typically does not participate in the Run Miles contest. The whole idea is to have some fun with this and to encourage Riders to ride on more Runs.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
